"The Joint Forces are ready for all forms and methods of warfare," Commander of Ukraine's Joint Forces Serhiy Nayev said on Channel 1+1 when asked whether Ukraine is ready for an offensive to retake Russian-occupied areas in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, the TV news service TSN reported. "I wouldn't be a commander and my subordinates wouldn't be soldiers of the Joint Forces if we were not ready for all forms and methods that combat suggests in general," he said. As UNIAN reported earlier, Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces Gen. Viktor Muzhenko says Russia is completing the formation of its strike force on the border with Ukraine, which together with special-operations units will form the base for the Kremlin's invasion fist. "Russia is completing the formation of the strike groupings on borders with Ukraine, which, jointly with spec-ops units – according to the Kremlin strategists – will form the base of their invasion forces," he said on March 3.

Het Oekraïense leger is op alles voorbereid, inclusief een offensief tegen de door Rusland aangestuurde rebellen om de bezette gebieden terug te krijgen. ''Dat kunnen we aan'', sprak Serhi Najev ferme taal in een interview op tv-zender 1+1. ''Ik zou geen commandant zijn en mijn ondergeschikten zouden geen soldaten zijn als ze niet bereid zijn om te vechten'', aldus Najev die de gezamenlijke strijdkrachten in Oost-Oekraïne aanvoert.

De chef van de generale staf Viktor Moezjenko zei eerder deze week dat het Russische leger zo'n beetje klaar is met stationeren van troepen langs de grens met Oekraïne. ''Reguliere legereenheden vormen samen met eenheden van speciale troepen de basis voor een Russische invasie'', zei Moezjenko. Er wordt al langere tijd gewaarschuwd voor de mogelijkheid van een Russische invasie, maar het kan ook zijn dat Rusland met het oog op de verkiezingen in Oekraïne druk op de ketel wil houden.
