Rusland bereidt een chemische aanval voor in Oost-Oekraïne, volgens de militiare inlichtingendiensten die na alle alarmerende berichten over een Oekraïense aanval met chemische wapens de rollen kennelijk nu maar eens hebben omgedraaid. De inlichtingendiensten menen dat er ''een aantal verontrustende aanwijzingen'' zijn voor een aanval met chemische wapens waarbij veel burgerslachtoffers zullen vallen.

Volgens woordvoerder Vadim Skibitski van het ministerie van Defensie zouden Russische specialisten sinds half december in de Donbas verblijven. Ook zou beschermende kleding zijn gearriveerd voor de rebellen. Als een van de aanwijzingen wordt aangevoerd dat de separatisten al wekenlang melding maken van een op handen zijnde chemische aanval met hulp van Britse specialisten.

Er wordt daarbij gewezen op de aanval met chemische wapens op 24 november bij de Syrische stad Aleppo. Volgens Syrië en Rusland zou die aanval het werk zijn van de oppositie, maar is intussen duidelijk dat het hier om een Russische actie ging.

"In order to create public opinion favorable to it, Moscow has been conducting a large-scale information campaign for more than a month on accusing Ukraine of hidden preparation for such actions. The Main Intelligence Directorate states that Russia conducted a similar influence operation on the eve of simulation of chemical attack near Aleppo in Syria on November 24 this year to justify further air strikes against Syrian opposition forces," Skibitsky stressed. As UNIAN reported earlier, on the first day of the New Year truce, starting midnight December 29, Russia-backed militants opened fire from grenade launchers on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Zalizne in the Horlivka direction.
