Oekraïne opnieuw nummer 1 in sigarettensmokkel

Het is geen klassering om trots op te zijn, want voor het tweede opeenvolgende jaar voert Oekraïne de lijst aan met landen van waaruit de meeste sigaretten naar de Europese Unie worden gesmokkeld. Volgens KPMG werden afgelopen jaar maar liefst 4,8 miljard sigaretten de Oekraïense grens over gesmokkeld en illegaal verhandeld, 11 procent van de totale illegale aanvoer naar de EU-landen die daardoor 1 miljard euro aan accijnzen zijn misgelopen.

Dat kost niet alleen de landen van de Europese Unie veel geld, maar het kan Oekraïne ook nog duur komen te staan omdat het in strijd is met het associatieverdrag.
