Russische olieboycot kan rampzalig uitpakken

De Russische sancties tegen Oekraïense bedrijven kunnen zorgen voor een tekort aan benzine en diesel in Oekraïne. De oliehandel houdt er serieus rekening mee en kijkt al naar andere leveranciers. In een talkshow op de Russische televisie keek het prominente parlementslid Aleksej Zhoeravlev in z'n handen wrijvend van plezier uit naar het moment waarop de 'kraan' dicht gaat. ''Wij leveren 80 procent van de autobrandstofen die in Oekraïne. Als we daarmee stoppen, dan is het over en uit met Oekraïne.''

De Oekraïense autoriteiten hebben nog niet gereageerd op Zhoeravlev's woorden, ook al staan er diverse ketens van benzinestations op de pas openbaar gemaakte sanctielijst. Analisten waarschuwen dat Oekraïne een moeilijke tijd tegemoet gaan als Rusland tot actie over gaat. Er kan een brandstoftekort ontstaan, terwijl de prijzen van benzine en diesel mogelijk verdubbelen.

Eind jaren '90 werd Oekraïne zwaar afhankelijk van Russische brandstoffen. Vijf van de zeven raffinaderijen werden gesloten, de olieraffinaderij in Lisitsjansk werd opgekocht en vervolgens gesloten. ''Er zijn meerdere versies van wat er destijds gebeurde, maar een ding is duidelijk: het was pure sabotage. Ze sloten onze raffinaderijen en moderniseerden de raffinaderijen in Rusland'', legt algemeen directeur Serhi Koejoen van de consultancygroep A-95 uit.
