'Politieke wil ontbreekt bij strijdende partijen'

Duitsland heeft de strijdende partijen in Oost-Oekraïne opgeroepen om zich te houden aan het Oogstbestand zoals dat eerder in de Wit-Russische hoofdstad Minsk is afgesproken voor de zomerperiode tot 1 september. Het Duitse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken constateert in een kort bericht op Twitter dat het aan beide kanten ontbreekt aan de politieke wil om met vechten te stoppen. ''We zien een voortdurend gebruik van wapens langs de frontlijn.''

Er wordt aan toegevoegd dat het Oekraïense leger in de afgelopen dagen veertien soldaten zag sneuvelen, terwijl dertien soldaten gewond raakten. Het Duitse ministerie gaat er vanuit dat de pro-Russische rebellen met dezelfde verliezen te maken hebben gehad. ''Het wordt tijd dat er eindelijk eens zichtbare stappen worden gemaakt in Oost-Oekraïne.''

Dat vindt ook de Oekraïense president Petro Porosjenko. Hij wil maandag, als hij de leiders van Rusland, Duitsland en Frankrijk - ook wel de Normandische Vier genoemd - aan de lijn heeft aandringen op een onmiddellijk staatk-het-vuren. ''Elke dode soldaat vraagt om een vergelding'', aldus Porosjenko. Die vergelding zou er moeten komen in de vorm van nóg steviger sancties tegen Rusland door de G7.
