OM houdt Russische generaal verantwoordelijk voor aanval op Avdiivka

Een Russische generaal wordt verantwoordelijk gehouden voor een aanval die bewust was gericht op burgerdoelen in Avdiivka, een stad langs de frontlijn waar de pro-Russische rebellen het al sinds januari vorig jaar vrijwel dagelijks op hebben voorzien. Bij de aanval op 1 februari van dit jaar kwamen twee Oekraïense soldaten en een inwoner van Avdiivka om het leven. Ook werden 56 woningen en infrastructurele werken vernield.

Volgens het Openbaar Ministerie wordt de generaal, wiens naam niet bekend is gemaakt, beschuldigd van een terroristische aanval die de dood van burgers tot gevolg heeft. De Russische generaal zou een topfunctie bekleden bij de separatisten in het bezette deel van de provincie Donetsk. Mocht hij ooit veroordeeld kunnen worden, dan wacht hem een levenslange gevangenisstraf.
