Oekrenergo kijkt met zorg naar komende winter

Het energiebedrijf Oekrenergo waarschuwt voor hogere kosten en mogelijk (geplande) stroomonderbrekingen in de komende winterperiode. Volgesn directeur Vsevolod Kovaltsjoek komt dat door de hoge kosten van kolen en aardgas waarmee het staatsbedrijf te maken heeft. Als sprake is van een tekort aan kolen, zoals in de afgelopen twee winters, dan moet meer elektriciteit worden opgewekt met het duurdere aardgas.

Het kabinet nam eind juli een actieplan aan voor de komende winter waarin is vastgelegd dat er op 1 november 2,8 miljoen ton kolen in voorraad moet zijn bij de elektriciteitscentrales. Op 2 oktober werd echter door Oekrenergo geconstateerd dat er 1,3 miljoen kolen voorhanden is. Twee dagen later meldde het staatsbedrijf dat de aanvoer van kolen goed op gang is gekomen.

At this, Kovalchuk admitted the price of electricity produced from gas would be quite high. "Yes, the price will be much higher as compared to coal-based generation, but it is for the sake of the country's energy system stability. Other options will be much more expensive, or consumption will have to be reduced -- in cycles, without massive power cuts," he said. According to the plan, the country intends to accumulate 2.8 million tonnes of coal in warehouses of thermal power plants by November 1, 2016. Meanwhile, coal stocks in TPPs warehouses, as of October 2, amounted to 1.3 million tonnes, according to Ukrenergo. On October 4, Ukrenergo announced that coal supplies to Ukrainian TPPs were stable, and the schedule had slipped only by four days.
