Separatisten willen kerstbestand vanaf zaterdag

De separatisten in Donetsk en Loehansk willen een staakt-het-vuren voor de kerstperiode die zaterdag om middernacht in gaat. Het voorstel is overgenomen door de Contactgroep die gistermiddag bijeen kwam in Minsk. Dat heeft Martin Sajdik, de onderhandelaar namens de OVSE, na afloop verklaard op een persconferentie.

Er is al eerder een tijdelijk staakt-het-vuren in acht genomen. De laatste keer was dat begin september, bij het begin van het nieuwe schooljaar. Uiteindelijk kwam het neer op slechts één geweldloze dag, waarna de rebellen overigens wel enige tijd minder aanvallen deden dan daarvoor het geval was. Het Oekraïense leger zegt al tijden alleen maar terug te schieten als het niet anders kan.

In het overleg van de Contactgroep is volgens woordvoerster Darka Olifer van oud-president Leonid Koetsjma ook gesproken over de situatie in en rond de stad Debaltseve die vorig jaar februari in handen kwam van de pro-Russische rebellen. Koetsjma zou geëist hebben dat de rebellen teruggaan naar de frontlijn zoals die op 19 september 2014 is vastgelegd. Daarvoor zouden ze Debaltseve op moeten geven.

A full ceasefire, the withdrawal of foreign armed formations, the sealing of the border, adherence to Ukrainian laws and OSCE standards are major conditions for conducting local elections in Donbas, Olifer reiterated.
