Politie voert beveiliging op in centrum van Kiev

Uit vrees voor ongeregeldheden en mogelijk zelfs aanslagen sluit de politie met ingang van morgen de Chrestsjatikstraat af in het centrum van Kiev. Voorbijgangers kunnen controles met metaaldetectoren verwachten. Dat heeft Adrii Kristsjenko van de Nationale Politie vanmiddag gezegd op tv-zender 112. ''We gaan er vanuit dat iedereen hier begrip voor heeft'', aldus Kristsjenko. Er wordt verder een hondenbrigade ingezet en de explosievenopruimingsdienst is stand-by.

Er zijn massademonstraties op komst tegen de regering. De staatsveiligheidsdienst SBOe waarschuwde enkele dagen geleden al voor grote problemen. De demonstraties zouden worden aangestuurd vanuit Rusland, meent de dienst.
