'Slechte' banken ontslaan 45.000 werknemers

In de afgelopen twee jaar hebben maar liefst 45.000 bankmedewerkers hun baan verloren. Dat zegt directeur Kostjantin Voroesjilin van het Staatsgarantiefonds in een interview met het persagentschap Ukrinform. Tientallen banken zijn inmiddels failliet. De banken die het tot nu toe wel hebben gered moesten echter ook veel mensen ontslaan.

Van de 55.000 medewerkers van twee jaar geleden staan er nog 12.000 op de loonlijst van slecht renderende banken die onder toezicht van het Staatsgarantiefonds vallen. Effectief gaat het om 8.000 bankmedewerkers, want 4.000 blijken met zwangerschapsverlof of zitten om andere redenen thuis.

Solosjenko en Afanasjev teruggekeerd in Oekraïne

De in Rusland wegens spionage en sabotage tot jarenlange gevangenisstraffen veroordeelde Joeri Solosjenko en Hennadi Afanasjev zijn aan het einde van de middag gearriveerd op Borispil, de luchthaven van de Oekraïense hoofdstad Kiev. Intussen is ook een Russisch vliegtuig in Moskou geland, met aan boord de van separatisme beschuldigde journalisten Olena Glisjtsjinskaja en Vitali Didenko uit Odessa.

Het tweetal behoorde volgens de krant Doemskaja tot de initiatiefnemers van het 'Volksparlement van Bessarabië' dat afscheiding van Oekraïne nastreefde. Gliststjinskaja was directeur van de televisiezender Novaja Volkna. Zij werd in april vorig jaar gearresteerd en moest in de gevangenis bevallen van een zoon. Die is samen met haar naar Moskou gevlogen. Gliststjinskaja heeft nog twee kinderen die in Odessa zijn achtergebleven.

Didenko was hoofdredactie van Info Center, een nieuwssite die op de hand was van de separatisten. Hij probeerde zijn arrestatie te ontlopen door van de derde verdieping te springen van het appartementencomplex waar hij woonde. Hij liep daarbij diverse botbreuken op. Didenko werd tot drie jaar gevangenisstraf veroordeeld.

Er zitten nu nog 25 Oekraïners gevangen in Rusland. Onder hen de regisseur Oleh Sentsov die in augustus vorig jaar werd veroordeeld tot 20 jaar gevangenisstraf wegens terrorisme op de door Rusland geannexeerde Krim.

Zes gewonden bij aanvallen Avdivka en Marinka

Bij gevechten met de pro-Russische rebellen zijn gisteren zes Oekraïense soldaten gewond geraakt. De gewonden vielen bij aanvallen op hun posities nabij Avdivka en Marinka. Legerwoordvoerder kolonel Andri Lisenko meldde dat gisteren vier rebellen zijn gedood en drie gewond zijn geraakt. Het zou gaan om leden van verkenningseenheden.

Er zouden gisteren veertig aanvallen zijn uitgevoerd door de rebellen. Avdiivka, de Boetivkamijn en Piski werden beschoten met 152 millimeter artillerie en 120 millimeter mortieren. Zondag kwamen bij aanvallen op de door het leger beschermde kolenmijn Boetivka vier soldaten om en raakten liefst tien gewond.

Het leger zegt dat afgelopen maand 180 rebellen zijn gedood, voor de helft zou het Russische soldaten betreffen.

Ruil Oekraïners Solosjenko en Afanasjev op komst

De in Rusland gevangen zittende Oekraïners Joeri Solosjenko en Hennadi Afanasjev worden mogelijk vandaag vrijgelaten, aldus de krant Zerkalo Nedeli die zich baseert op een bron uit de omgeving van president Petro Porosjenko. Het zou gaan om een ruil, die gepland staat voor eind van de middag.

De ruil betreft vermoedelijk mensen die gevangen zitten omdat zij betrokken waren bij de gebeurtenissen op 2 mei 2014 in Odessa toen zes deelnemers aan een pro-Oekraïense betoging werden doodgeschoten dan wel doodgeslagen. Diezelfde middag kwamen ook 48 pro-Russische betogers om het leven nadat zij hun heil zochten in een gebouw dat met molotovcocktails in brand raakte.

Volgens de bron zou de ruil op dezelfde manier plaats hebben als onlangs met Nadia Savtsjenko gebeurde, namelijk door ze tegelijkertijd per vliegtuig over te brengen. Eén van de mensen die geruild worden zou een vrouw uit de stad Odessa zijn.

Savtsjenko pleit voor vervroegde verkiezingen

Nadia Savtsjenko vindt dat er vervroegde parlementsverkiezingen moeten komen om 'vers bloed' in de Oekraïense politiek te introduceren. ''Ons volk verdient een betere regering'', aldus het parlementslid dat lange tijd in Rusland gevangen zat en onlangs werd vrijgelaten. Het kabinet-Hrojsman hoeft niet op haar steun te rekenen, dat is wel duidelijk. ''Ons land holt achteruit door de kabinetten die we sinds Majdan hebben gehad. Het vertrouwen van het volk is geschaad.''

Savtsjenko volgt met haar oproep tot vervroegde verkiezingen Joelia Timosjenko, de leider van de Moederlandpartij waarvoor de 35-jarige Oekraïense in het parlement zit. De Moederlandpartij scoort uitstekend in de peilingen, dit in tegenstelling tot Solidariteit, de partij van president Petro Porosjenko. Die is dan ook faliekant tegen vervroegde verkiezingen die volgens hem leiden tot volstrekte chaos in het land.

In een interview met het persagentschap Associated Press omschrijft Savtsjenko haar verhouding tot president Porosjenko als ''zakelijk''. Over Rusland zegt ze dat de Verenigde Staten en de Europese bondgenoten meer druk moeten uitoefenen. ''Ze moeten Rusland terecht wijzen. Doen ze dat niet, dan groeien de Russische ambities alleen maar en stevenen we af op een nieuwe wereldoorlog.''

Savtsjenko vindt dat het mogelijk moet zijn om met de leiders van de separatisten in gesprek te gaan. ''Blijven we ze negeren, dan komt er nooit een einde aan deze oorlog.'' Voordat het tot onderhandelingen komt met Alexander Zachartsjenko (Donetsk) en Igor Plotnitski (Loehansk) moeten volgens Savtsjenko wel eerst de Russische soldaten weg zijn uit Oost-Oekraïne en moet de grens met Rusland zijn afgegrendeld.

Ook toont ze zich vergevingsgezind tegenover het gros van de separatisten. ''De Russische propaganda heeft bij hen z'n werk gedaan, ze meenden er goed aan te doen om er voor te vechten. Voor zover het geen brute moordenaars, verkrachters en plunderaars betreft, vind ik dat ze amnestie moeten krijgen. We moeten leren om te vergeven om eenheid in ons land te krijgen.''

Rutte: uitslag Oekraïne-referendum desastreus

De Nederlandsse premier Mark Rutte vindt de uitslag van het referendum over het associatieverdrag met Oekraïne rampzalig. "Het referendum heeft een desastreus resultaat opgeleverd", zei hij tijdens een bijeenkomst met parlementariërs uit EU-landen. Rutte herhaalde dat het nog steeds mogelijk is dat Nederland het verdrag niet ondertekent, als onderhandelingen in Europa en met Nederlandse politieke partijen op niks uitlopen.

Rutte benadrukt dat hij hoopt dat het niet zo ver hoeft te komen. In gesprek met de parlementariërs herhaalde hij ook zijn standpunt over referenda. "I am totally against referenda. And I am totally, totally, totally against referenda on multilateral agreements, because it makes no sense."

Volgens Rutte toont het Oekraïne-referendum aan dat het onmogelijk is om als losstaande lidstaat beslissingen te nemen over een akkoord dat door de EU als geheel is genomen. Bij het referendum afgelopen april stemde 61 procent van de kiezers tegen het associatieverdrag. De opkomst was 32 procent.

Hoewel het om een raadgevend referendum ging, beloofden veel partijen de uitslag te respecteren. Het kabinet heeft nog niet officieel gereageerd op de uitslag, verwacht wordt dat een reactie na het Britse EU-referendum op 23 juni komt.

Douane Oekraïne pakt Fransman met zware wapens

Op de grens tussen Oekraïne en Polen is een Franse man aangehouden met een groot arsenaal zware wapens. De man werd volgens de Franse omroep M6 door de Oekraïense douane opgepakt toen hij probeerde ruim honderd kilo explosieven, drie granaatwerpers en meerdere kalasjnikovs over de grens met Polen te smokkelen.

Een woordvoerder van de Oekraïense grenswacht bevestigde de aanhouding aan Reuters. De man zou nog vastzitten in Oekraïne. Mogelijk wordt hij uitgeleverd aan Frankrijk. De Oekraïense inlichtingendienst wil de aanhouding nog niet bevestigen.

Volgens de omroep M6 wilde de man de wapens gebruiken om een aanslag in Parijs te plegen. Toen zijn woning in Noord-Frankrijk werd doorzocht, zou de politie onder meer explosieven en T-shirts met symbolen van een extreem-rechtse groepering hebben gevonden.

In mei waarschuwde de Franse inlichtingendienst DGSI voor een golf terreuraanslagen in Frankrijk. Dit ging over terreur vanuit extremistische islamitische hoek. De waarschuwing kwam kort voor grote evenementen als de Tour de France en het EK voetbal.
