Gasverbruik blijft alsmaar dalen in Oekraïne

Het gasverbruik is afgelopen maand met 9,7 procent gedaald ten opzichte van mei vorig jaar, aldus het Nationaal Statistisch Bureau. Ten opzichte van april zou zelfs sprake zijn van een daling van 30 procent. Vorig jaar werd het gasverbruik ook al fors teruggebracht ten opzichte van 2014, met maar liefst 20,9 procent. Het Bureau voor Energiebesparing verwacht dit jaar een daling met 15 procent.

Een belangrijke reden daarvoor is de stijging van de gasprijzen als gevolg van het (stapsgewijs) schrappen van de overheidssubsidie op aardgas. Huishoudens draaien de kraan dicht om de rekening betaalbaar te houden, het op grote schaal invoeren van de inmiddels verplichte gasmeter helpt daar bij.

Overigens is ook van andre brandstoffen aanzienlijk minder verbruikt. Zo is in een jaar tijd 5,8 procent minder benzine verkocht en 0,7 procent minder dieselolie.

Ukraine has also reduced consumption of crude oil and gas condensate in May compared to May 2015 by 76% – to 15,600 tonnes, gasoline – by 5.8% to 41,700 tonnes, diesel fuel – by 0.7% to 266,400 tonnes. The State Agency for Energy Efficiency forecasts a 15% decline in natural gas consumption in 2016 yoy.
